Los Angeles-based lighting company Daylight Events recently deployed an all-Elation lighting package featuring newly acquired Paragon S luminaires for the inaugural World Fencing League (WFL) event, held April 25, 2026, at the landmark Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in LA.
The debut event brought together 12 of the world's top fencers, including Olympians and world champions, as the WFL launched its vision of transforming fencing into a modern cultural movement aimed at inspiring a new generation of fans.
A Perfect Fit
For Daylight Events owner Greg Day, who purchased Elation´s PARAGON S fixtures in December and quickly integrated them into Daylight Events' rental inventory, the fixture addressed a growing need for more sophisticated lighting solutions capable of serving both live audiences and broadcast cameras.
When creative agency Meridian brought Daylight Events into the World Fencing League project, Day knew the Paragon was the right foundation for the rig. "I thought Paragon would be the perfect light for the WFL event," said Day, who collaborated on the lighting design with Daylight Events team member Ayal Hagay. "The lighting had to be bright because it was for broadcast, and I needed a light with framing where you can square off the stage. It also has nice colors, and they are great for camera, so we got everything in one package."
Daylight Events services a wide variety of productions, including bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings, televised events, concerts, charity events, and awards shows. "I needed a light that can do a lot, more than just graphics and flash and trash, but something we can also use for professional events," said Day of the award-winning LED profile fixtures. Working alongside Meridian, which managed the broadcast and video content for the WFL event, Daylight supplied truss, rigging, and lighting for the broadcast production.
Elation Rig
The Shrine Expo Hall's expansive stage and balcony configuration required a versatile lighting system capable of covering both competition and audience areas while meeting the high-output demands of broadcast production.
The lighting system centered around Elation fixtures exclusively, including the recently purchased Paragon fixtures alongside FUZE PROFILE and FUZE SFX luminaires. "The Elation rig lit the fencing, the whole stage, and did area lighting throughout the room," Day explained. "We used it to create the walk-in look, ballyhoos for winners, everything."
Paragon 'Piste'
The Paragons played a central role with its TruTone variable CRI system dialed in at CRI 80 to maximize the output of the fixture. "Due to the broadcast and basic pro fencing standards, a CRI of 80 or more was very important," explains Elation's Esteban De La Torre, who programmed and operated the show. "The main focus of the Paragons was to light all the high visibility areas for the broadcast, most importantly the 'piste' which is the long, narrow area where the actual fencing takes place. We brought the color temperature down from its native 6500K to 5600K and was easily getting around 1000 lux on it, which was the minimum requirement for intensity."
Camera Quality to Dynamic Effects
The Paragon's Ultra Dimming feature also proved effective, allowing for precise, low-level dimming control at a very high refresh rate of 25 kHz. De La Torre explains, "This was important because the broadcast utilized lots of slow-motion replays that required the lighting to operate at a high speed to avoid any flickering on camera." The Ultra Dimming system enables seamless intensity transitions, even at the lowest dimming levels and slowest crossfades, while maintaining optimum refresh rates to minimize camera interference.
The Paragon fixtures delivered both the clean, camera-friendly illumination needed for competition lighting and the dynamic effects expected from a modern entertainment event. "The Paragon really lit the stage well, which was key for this event, and looked great on camera," Day added. "But we can also use it for ballyhoos, all in the same fixture. We light the stage in good quality light for camera, and then we get to have fun with the effects and color."
The compact size of the Paragon S fixtures also aligned with the Daylight's event work, where discreet production design is often essential. "We can't have big, heavy moving lights in a ballroom," Day explained. "Our clients don't want to see big lights everywhere. We have the Fuze fixtures in white housing to blend in, and I chose the S version of the Paragon because it's small and discreet." With its IP54 rating, Paragon can also be used outside.
Fuze Flexibility
Day has relied on Elation's Fuze fixtures for several years, citing their creative flexibility and strong visual effects capabilities. "The Fuze fixtures have good gobos and good color," Day said. "The SFX has effects that we really like, and the Fuze Profile has the animation wheel, which I love. For bar mitzvahs for example, it's great for texture on a wall or the ground."
For the WFL event, the Fuze Profiles were used to light other broadcast areas that still needed high CRI and tunable CCT lighting like entrances, walkways, and special areas outside of the piste. The Fuze SFX units were used primarily as area lighting, with breakup gobos used to light the walls, as well as for audience lighting.
With a busy production schedule, Day says the Paragon fixtures have already become a consistent part of the company's inventory rotation. "We've used the Paragon a lot already," he said. "They're out every week."
